The 2014 Conference on ERM in the Insurance Industry –ORSA and EC

“The 2014 Conference on ERM in the Insurance Industry – ORSA and EC” will take place on October 29 to 30, 2014 in Taipei. This year’s Conference is supervised by the Financial Supervisory Commission, planned by the Insurance Bureau, and jointly organized by the Taiwan Insurance Institute, Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation Fund, Taiwan Residential Earthquake Insurance Fund, and Taiwan Insurance Guaranty Fund.

The event organizers indicated that the Conference on ERM has become one of the most important events of the insurance industry every year. Every Conference on ERM held in the past four years has received positive reviews and attracted good attendance. This year’s conference will feature two themes “ORSA and Economic Capital” to in line with the focus which Taiwan regulators are currently driving. A strong panel of speakers have been invited to present at this conference including Insurance Commissioner of Connecticut Insurance Department Mr. Thomas Leonardi and director of KPMG Australia Mr. Rob Curtis, who will introduce the ORSA regulations in the US and Asia, respectively. Both will also share the implementation experience and future development of ORSA that could be used by the regulators as reference for future law development. The Head International Government Affairs and Consulting of Swiss Re Mr. Lutz Wilhelmy, the Consulting Actuary of Milliman Mr. Peter Boekel, Principal and Consulting Actuary of Milliman Mr. Wing Wong and Mr. Dave Finnis of Professional Financial Solutions will share their expertise in economic capital through theoretical and practical perspectives as well as the economic capital calculation in significant risks of insurance which intend to provide insurance companies with valuable thoughts for early stage of building the economic capital models. At last, Mr. Koichi Uzuka of PwC Aarata and Mr. Jim Qin of Tokio Marine Asia will provide applications of ORSA in insurance industry.

The organizers hope the content of this well planned conference will benefit regulators in formulation of relevant regulations and help insurance companies in business practice.
