TII hosted 2025 Insurance and Economic Development Forum December 10, 2024

The “Insurance and Economic Development Forum 2025” was held on December 10, 2024 and hosted by the Taiwan Insurance Institute (TII) at the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation International Convention Center, Taipei. There were 265 participants attending the Forum including speakers and guests from the supervisory agency, the academia and the financial industry. Dr. Yen-Liang Chen, Vice Chairperson, Financial Supervisory Commission came to deliver his opening remarks on the policy direction of the transformation in Financial and Insurance Industries at the beginning of the Forum.

The Forum also included seven brilliant speeches addressed by Dr. Kai-Uwe Schanz, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Research Foresight of The Geneva Association, Ms. Petra Hielkema, Chairperson of European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and Chair of FinTech Forum, International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), Dr. Chung-Shu Wu, Chairman of Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER), Dr. Hong-Chih Huang, Chairman of TII, Mr. Paul You, Vice Chairman of Securities Investment Trust & Consulting Association of the R.O.C., also the Chairman of First Securities Investment Trust & First Private Capital, Ms. Tiffany Hsieh, Chairperson of BlackRock Investment Management (Taiwan), and Mr. Alen Chen, Director of SAS Taiwan.

Dr. Kai-Uwe Schanz shared his view on “Addressing Protection Gaps and Making Insurance More Inclusive - Societal Expectations and Commercial Opportunities.” Ms. Petra Hielkema outlined her vision of “International Perspectives on the Insurance Sector 2025- Innovation and Transformation.” Dr. Wu and Dr. Huang gave the outlook on global economy as well as Taiwan insurance market respectively.

In addition, the Forum consisted of one panel discussion on “How the Financial and Insurance Sectors Assist Industrial Transformation” that discussed the “Core Development Strategy for the new policy of "Smart Taiwan”, “Smart Medical Insurance Solutions to build Healthy Taiwan”, and “Integrated Financial and Insurance Services to Alleviate the Protection Gap of Retirement”. Moderator and panelists were from the National Development Council, financial research institutes, and the insurance industry.

Since 2013, TII has regularly hosted “Insurance and Economic Development Forum” at the end of the year annually through inviting leading experts to share their views on the global economic prospect and financial market trend. This event is proposed to help the insurance industry obtain the most up-to-date information and grasp the development trend of insurance market timely before next year.
