  • To invite insurance scholars and experts devoting themselves in writing insurance-related books and articles, and make the Institute become a professional insurance publication center.

Actuarial Analysis & Statistics

Goals

  • To show the financial & operational status of insurance company.
  • To centralize the management and maintenance of all insurance statistical data, and establish continual and long-term analysis for reference use.
  • To comply with deregulation in premium rates, TII has established a Rating Task Force providing the non-life actuarial statistics to insurance companies for use as a ratemaking reference.

Main Activities

  • Implementing ratemaking, reserving, IT processing, and conducting statutory research by the Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance Actuarial and Research Development Task Force.
  • Providing supportive services to clients in ratemaking for various non-life insurance products and, where required, assist them in establishing actuarial information databases.
  • Conducting risk-based capital (RBC) research to identify the most suitable practices as well as determine the RBC ratio.
  • Reviewing and maintaining the insurance data system for current analysis and future research periodically.
  • Assisting regulators to administer & analyze the opinions of policy-reviewing on quarterly basis.
  • Using newly developed, computerized tools to improve the quality of the statistical work and fulfill future analytical needs.
  • Establishing an insurance products database for public inquiry.
  • Researching and reviewing financial risks and actuarial issues.
  • Conducting research of modern actuarial approaches.
  • Cooperating with the Bureau of National Health Insurance for research.

Education and Training

Goals

  • To upgrade professional knowledge of the local insurance industry by providing training and education programs
  • To enhance the performance and globalization of the local insurance industry by cooperating with international organizations
  • To introduce to Taiwan the latest risk management skills, actuarial techniques, and currently practiced operational insurance expertise around the global

  • Organizing ad hoc seminars in accordance with market needs, as well as providing a series of conferences on the latest concepts and skills in:

  • Planning the comprehensive insurance educational courses and systematically provides advanced tranining
  • Promoting international and domestic professional insurance designation programs,through:
    • Administering of the Qualification Examination for Investment-Linked Insurance Sales Agent and the Qualification Examination for Financial Markets & Ethics
    • Providing preparatory courses for taking of the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Examination
    • Managing the Associates Examinations, Fellowship Examinations, and Transitional VEE Examinations for the Casualty Actuarial Society
    • Organizing the exams of Certificate in Insurance, Diploma in Insurance, Advanced Diploma in Insurance, and Advanced Financial Planning Certificate for the Chartered Insurance Institute
  • Establishing long-term working relationships with international, educational, governmental, and professional agencies, such as LIMRA International, and NAIC

MIS Department

Goals

  • To develop various IT architectures and create new environments for on-line policy purchasing, and e-policy issuing.
  • To study existing international data transfer standards for the purpose of enhancing data exchange efficiency within the insurance industry.
  • To conduct a BCP (Business Continuity Planning) project to insure that the computing abilities of IT resources may not be affected by any accident.

Main Activities

  • Helping regulators build information systems that streamline the regulatory process, thereby upgrading the business capacity of insurers and better protecting the rights of policyholders.
  • Operating a premium inquiry center for Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance to maintain market discipline.
  • Promoting the establishment of the Taiwan e-Insurance Signature (TeIS) platform to provide more secure and user-friendly on-line policy purchasing.
  • Launching an e-insurance investigation to assist the insurance industry to meet the burgeoning need of the public and the globalization trends.
  • Constructing an e-learning platform to help the public eliminating the obstinate of receiving the up-to-date know-how of insurance industry.
